The Olympic bronze medalists faced off against the reigning Olympic champions in Toronto, Canada. Both Canada and Germany had undergone recent coaching changes, with Steffi Jones (Germany) being dismissed after a disappointing She Believes performance and John Herdman (Canada) moving to coach the men’s side.
Canadian captain Christine Sinclair and Jessie Fleming both scored for Canada, while Svenja Huth, Sara Däbritz both scored for Germany. In the end, it was Turid Knaak who scored the game-winning goal as Germany edged out Canada in a hard-fought 3-2 win.
