The Utah Royals returned to Providence Park for another Friday night matchup against Portland Thorns FC. It was the third and final meeting of the two teams for the 2018 NWSL regular season. In their last match, Portland won 2-0 and both teams settled for a 1-1 draw in April.
After revamping their offense with the addition of Christen Press, acquired via a trade on June 18, Utah hoped to even the series with a win over Portland.
It was all Portland in the 90 minutes, however, as Utah conceded three goals in the first half and another one in the second half. Tobin Heath, Ana-Maria Crnogorcevic, Lindsey Horan, and Tyler Lussi all scored for Portland.
