Coming into the match, Canada was 1-5-0 all-time against Germany with their sole win coming from the group stage of the 2016 Rio Olympics. After multiple goals from both sides, Germany was able to edge out Canada in a hard fought 3-2 win. Both teams have faced recent coaching changes with Steffi Jones (Germany) being sacked after a disappointing She Believes performance and John Herdman taking over the Canadian men’s team. Captain Christine Sinclair and Jessie Fleming both scored for Canada. Svenja Huth, Sara Däbritz both scored for Germany but it was Turid Knaak who scored the game-winning goal.
